On this day in 1960, Senegal signed a transfer of power agreement, which led to its official recognition as an autonomous republic. Known as the “Gateway to Africa,” Senegal commemorates its Independence Day. Depicted in the Doodle artwork, the flag of Senegal was first established the same year as the country’s sovereignty and features a green star in the middle.
